Time limit to file a complaint.

Under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, the time limit to file a consumer complaint for damages is within 2 years from the date of the cause of action (i.e., when the defect or deficiency in goods/services occurred).

  • A. If a consumer misses the 2-year deadline, they can request an extension by proving a valid reason for the delay.

  • B. The consumer commission has the discretion to accept complaints filed after 2 years if there was a justifiable delay (e.g., medical emergencies, lack of awareness).
